How to Make Oversized Paper Chains for a Cozy Christmas Statement

Supplies You’ll Need

• Cardstock or thick craft paper (we used green, red, cream and holiday patterns)
• Paper cutter or scissors
• Stapler (or tape/glue if you prefer)
• Ladder
• Broom or long handle (trust me on this)
• Optional: paper stars or other lightweight ornaments

Step 1: Cut Your Paper Strips

Start by cutting your paper into strips. Ours were slightly wider than traditional paper chains, which helped them feel more substantial and decorative.

Tip: Consistency matters more than exact size. Pick a width and stick with it so the chains look intentional once they’re hanging. I used a paper cutter with measurements to make this part really quick and easy.

Step 2: Create the Chains

Take one strip, form it into a loop, and staple the ends together. Thread the next strip through that loop, close it, and repeat.

Tip: Make a mix of short and long chains so you have flexibility when hanging.

Step 3: Decide Where to Hang
